‘Revise Housing Law Development Act’

Partido ng Bayan ang Bida nominee lawyer Imelda Cruz will push for the revision of the Urban Development Housing Act to ensure affordable and decent housing programs for homeless Filipinos.

The amendments made to the UDHA are outdated, Cruz said, and “needs revision to fit the present need for the government’s housing program.”

“During the census in 2016, there is a 6.2 million backlog in housing, and at present, it could reach around eight million,” she added.

The government’s projects should also be properly distributed nationwide, “to benefit the true beneficiaries and not the politicians,” the nominee told a National Press Club forum last week.

The PBB leader also expressed support for the creation of the Department of Housing, which would focus on housing programs and not a mere clustering of different housing agencies.

She stressed that government, in dealing housing loans to applicants, should impose a much lower interest rate and not inflict too much requirements in filing a loan.

“Let’s not make it hard for Filipinos who want to have their own homes,” Cruz added.
