Metro cops on alert for summer vacation

The National Capital Region Police Office is taking extra measures to ensure public safety in Metro Manila during the summer vacation.

NCRPO director Guillermo Eleazar said are implementing a campaign dubbed “Ligtas Sumvac (summer vacation) 2019” as he ordered the deployment of more than 11,500 police officers to secure the public including local and international tourists visiting Metro Manila this summer.

In addition, the police have issued precautionary tips with residents to avoid criminal incidents as best as possible.

According to Eleazar, summer vacations for students have started and is expected to last until June 3. He said that during this season, various activities are being observed such as the Lenten Season; Philippine Veterans Week, Araw ng Kagitingan, Labor Day, National Flag Day, Flores de Mayo and fiestas.

Eleazar said the police will increase patrols of crime hotspots including places of convergence like malls, churches, recreational areas, tourist destinations and areas of transport services like the Metro Railway and Light Railway transits, bus terminals, airports and seaports.

“These activities draw huge numbers of people in places of convergence. We want to make these places as safe as possible,” said Eleazar.
