Police on Saturday warned the public anew on credit card theft as enterprising criminals continue operating in various posh hotel resorts and casino in Metro Manila.

This after four members of a syndicate, believed to be responsible for using stolen credit cards and skimming devices, have been busted by elements of the National Capital Region Police Office.

NCRPO operatives initially arrested 37-year-old Czarynah Datu who was caught in possession of a credit card used in fraudulent transaction at Resorts World Manila in Pasay City.

Datu’s arrest was made after Martin Ramon Aragon, Fraud Management Unit Investigation Team of Banco de Oro Unibank Inc., lodged a complaint on March 13, saying the credit card under the name of one Jasmine Reymundo found in the suspect’s possession was used fraudulently.

Several identification cards, including two government ID’s also under the name of Reymundo, and a fake Philippine passport were also seized from Datu’s possession.

“The suspect admitted the crime and further revealed the source of credit cards by leading the authorities to the whereabouts of her cohorts,” said NCRPO chief Guillermo Eleazar.

Police follow-up operations conducted in Sampaloc, Manila and West Triangle in Quezon City resulted in the apprehension of Datu’s cohorts, identified as Paul Cabalza, 45; Eduardo Nera Jr., 41; and Teresita Caranglan, 61.

Recovered from the suspects in separate police operations were several bank credit and debit cards under the name of various individuals, including Korean and Chinese nationals; visa cards; mobile gadgets; Louis Vuitton booklets; and skimming devices used in fraudulent transactions.

Authorities warned the public that criminals can also easily capture credit and debit card information with small devices called skimmers.

NCRPO deputy director for operations Chief Supt. Crizaldo Nieves reminded the public to be alert whenever their credit cards are being swiped in restaurants or in any establishments.

The suspects are now detained at the NCRPO detention facility in Camp Bagong Diwa in Bicutan, Tagug City.
