BOC seizes P800 million worth used vehicles, fake goods

The Bureau of Customs seized second-hand cars, trucks and fake goods worth more than P800 million at the Manila International Container Port and in Binondo and Parañaque.

Seized were one unit of used Bentley car and one unit of used Hino truck with crane after the shipment undergo to a physical examination at the Manila International Container Port.

MICP District Collector Erastus Sandino Austria said the consignee declared their shipment as used forklift, used diesel engine and other household goods.

Meanwhile, the BOC raided a building in Binondo and a warehouse in Paranaque and found fake goods, customs commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero said.

Inside the building in Binondo and a warehouse in Parañaque, Customs agents found several fake goods bearing the brand names of Nike, Adidas, Under Armour, Polo Ralph Lauren, Supreme, Roxy, Marvel, Hello Kitty, Billabong, among others.

“Based on the initial inspection conducted by customs agents, the three warehouse units contain roughly 2,500 sacks of wearing apparel with an estimated value of P700 million,” Guerrero said.

Under the Republic Act No. 8293 or the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines, fake goods are classified as prohibited.
