Portion of P11-billion shabu reaches Mindanao–PDEA

Shabu worth P11 billion that supposedly slipped past the Bureau of Customs in August could have already reached Mindanao, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency said Monday.

PDEA Director General Aaron Aquino said there were similarities in impurities found in the shabu seized at the Manila International Container Port, in Metro Manila, Cavite and Mindanao.

“There was a high correlation. This only showed there was only one source, one manufacturer and the same way of producing the drugs,” Aquino said.

Aquino said the PDEA was stepping up its operations during the holiday season when drug use is expected to rise because of the many Christmas parties.

Aquino said he and Customs Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero were coordinating on how to prevent the entry of illegal drugs at seaports, where the PDEA has been allowed to conduct inspections.

He said the collaboration included workshops and planning sessions on how to intercept shipments of drugs.
