Despite a Supreme Court order stopping the operation of the mobile-app based Angkas, its management on Friday stood firm on its ground to continue the ride-hailing motorbikes in Metro Manila.

At a news conference in Quezon City, George Royeca, Angkas spokesperson, said that the Supreme Court "did not order the suspension of Angkas itself" but it merely lifted the court injunction issued by the Mandaluyong City Regional Trial Court that disallowed the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board to apprehend Angkas drivers.

“We are hopeful that the Supreme Court will rule in favor of us after we file our comment,” he said.

Royeca, however, clarified they are not disobeying the high court, saying its order "is all about the injunction."

“So there is no decision saying the operation of Angkas is illegal or not,” he said.

He said Angkas will continue to operate.

“We will continue our fight to serve commuters in the safest and most efficient way possible and help legitimize our rider-partners,” he added.

Last Wednesday, the Supreme Court overruled the Mandaluyong City court and issued a temporary restraining order against Angkas.

The Department of Transportation welcomed the decision and reiterated its stance against the use of motorbikes as another mode of public transportation.

The LTFRB ordered law enforcers to apprehend Angkas drivers and impound their motorbikes operating as public utility vehicles.

David Medrana, Angkas operations head, slammed the LTFRB for the “unjust” apprehension of Angkas drivers.

"A lot of our drivers are scared of going out there, and taking rides from commuters. This has put them out of a decent livelihood," he said.
