Isabela Rep. Napoleon Dy on Friday called on the Office of the Ombudsman to resolve the charges of malversation of public funds through falsification of public documents and graft filed against his brother, incumbent Gov. Faustino Dy III, by the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption in 2015.
At the Usapang Politika, Agrikultura at Komunidad media forum in Quezon City, the lawmaker urged Ombudsman Samuel Martires to look into the charges and sanction those behind the ghost purchase of P15 million worth of canned goods and other food items and P15 million worth of rice for the province of Isabela.
“The resolution of the charges would end corruption among local officials in our province,” he said.
“For over three years, the Ombudsman has slept on the case despite the submission by the complainant of overwhelming testamentary and documentary evidence,” he added.
He, however, denied his call to convict his governor-brother was politically motivated.
The lawmaker, who belongs to the Nationalist People’s Coalition, is running for governor in the 2019 mid-term elections against the incumbent governor.
He filed his certificate of candidacy with the Commission on Elections in Cauayan, Isabela.
He accused his brother of corruption, and that “the present administration of the provincial government of Isabela has squandered the people’s money.”
The charges stemmed when then ABS Party-list Rep. Catalina Pizaro and 1-Care Party-list Rep. Michael Angelo Rivera allocated P15 million worth of canned goods and other food items and P10 million worth of rice for the victims of typhoon in 2015.
The VACC said the payment by the provincial government for the procurement of the goods and rice was not made to the suppliers—Sanitary Mart Corp. and Jimmy Pua Enterprises.
