Sandiganbayan goes digital in resolving cases

The Sandiganbayan hopes to speed up the resolution of cases through the adoption of digital technology.

The anti-graft court launched on Tuesday a modernization and transparency initiative that will leverage computer technology.

Presiding Justice Amparo Cabotaje Tang said the digitization will help the court resolve cases faster, as it targets a one-year maximum disposition.

Frequent rotation of justices in divisions is done in the Sandiganbayan and as a result, the physical transfer of voluminous records has to be done.

Thus with computerization, there will be easy access and transfer of records.

“We can access our own decisions, resolutions, that way we will be consistent in our rulings,” Tang said.

With the modernization program, the anti-graft court put up in its website a calendar of hearings, and a case status feature which provides links to past decisions, including Supreme Court decisions, that are relevant to the case.

The public will also be able to monitor the developments of the case with the modernization program.

She added the program would also have archives of decisions dating back to 1979.

“I have every faith that the component projects of this initiative, along with the Supreme Court’s revised guidelines for the continuous trial of criminal cases, will aid in the expeditious adjudication of cases before the Sandiganbayan,” Tang said.
