The performance and accomplishment of six officials of the Department of Tourism are being reviewed to determine whether they should stay in their current posts or should be reassigned to other positions, Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said on Tuesday.

“There were some Usecs and Asecs that I asked to report directly to my office because I want to review their accomplishments and what they can do for the department,” Puyat said at the sidelines of the Makati Business Club Annual Meeting in Makati.

“It’s more of a review. I will review their accomplishments and see where I can put them, and maybe also they won’t be happy na with me,” Puyat added.

The DoT chief, however, declined to identify the DoT officials who will be subject to evaluation.

Puyat admitted that she issued the order a week ago directing the said DoT officials to report to her office.

“I will still be discussing with them what we can make them do. They are reporting to the Office of the Secretary,” she said. “We have to check also because they were not appointed under my watch. I want to review their performance.”

According to her, she is currently relying on career officials of the DoT.

“Right now, I can say that I am relying on Usec. [Benito] Bong Benzon, Usec. [Arturo] Boncato, and I am relying on the career officials right now,” she said.

The Department of Tourism recently became controversial due to questionable projects implemented during the stint of former Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo, such as the P1.29-million contract for the reversible jackets for birthday celebrants, the P60-million worth of advertisements aired on Kilos Pronto, and the Buhay Carinderia program.

Teo resigned from her post last month following the controversy.
