Use spell check to avoid errors, PCOO told

Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque advised Presidential Communications Operations Office officials and staff to use “spell check” before issuing any press and photo releases from its office.

At the same time, Roque apologized for the two successive PCOO blunders.

The PCOO had cited Norway as “Norwegia” and also mistakenly addressed the late congressman and National Security Adviser  Roilo   Golez as “Rogelio” on its official Facebook page.

While this was not the first time the PCOO made mistakes, Roque, however, appealed to the public for understanding, saying   they have “learned the lesson.”

On its official Facebook page, the social media team of the PCOO shared a picture of Duterte honoring outgoing Norwegian Ambassador Erik Forner with the Order of Sikatuna.

The caption, however, drew flak since it referred to the country of Norway as “Norwegia”.

“Let he who has not erred cast the first stone. This may not be the first but come on, let’s give them slack,”   Roque said in a Palace briefing."

Only last March, the PCOO recalled the press identification (ID) cards issued to the Malacanang Press Corps after due to its numerous grammatical errors.

He assured that the PCOO, which was criticized over previous gaffes, will learn from its mistakes.

“I’m sure they will learn again from this experience in the same way they have learned from the experience of the past,” Roque told reporters.

The Palace official said he understands the frustration of the public over the issue, as well as the concerns of media, but said they are only “humans and commit mistakes.”
