Temperatures in Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija rose to 39.8 degrees Celsius on Thursday, the hottest so far in the country for 2018, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said yesterday.

Forecaster Lorie dela Cruz of the state weather bureau said the ridge of a high pressure area caused the warm and humid surroundings felt in the city.

The previous hottest day this year was recorded at 39.2 degrees in Subic, Zambales on April 15.

The heat in Metro Manila could reach 35 degrees while the mercury in the northern city of Tuguegarao, Cagayan could rise to 38 degrees, Pagasa said.

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers caused by localized thunderstorms could also be felt, it added.
