The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board will roll out the first batch of modern electronic jeepneys in some parts of Metro Manila in June in time for the school opening.

Aileen Lizada, the agency’s board of director and lawyer-spokesperson, said the colorful e-jeep units will ply the routes from Quezon City Hall along Elliptical Road, Diliman to Manila City Hall, Cultural Center of the Philippines/Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City to Southwest Intermodal Transport Exchange in Parañaque City, Fort Bonifacio-Gate 3 in Taguig City to Guadalupe market in Makati City, and Bagumbayan in Taguig to Pasig City.

The LTFRB said the operation of the modern colorful e-jeeps was part of the Department of Transportation’s public utility vehicle’s modernization program.

ELECTRIC DREAMS. In time for the school opening in June,  the modern electric jeepneys will roll outing the streets of Metro Manila as envisioned under the government’s PUV modernization program.   The e-jeepneys are equipped with features such as aircon,  CCTV, GPS, Wi-Fi, automated fare collection, and even provisions for emergency exits as well as easy ingress and egress of PWDs. These are designed to replace at least 200,000 units of the old jeepneys more than 15 years old.

The PM Jeepney, Senate Employees Cooperative, Pateros-Fort Bonifacio Cooperative and Taguig City Cooperative were the proponents of the first batch of the e-jeeps to ply the routes of the metro, according to Lizada.

On June 19, 2017, DoTr issued Department Order No. 2017-011 (Re: Omnibus Guidelines on the Planning and Identification of Public Road Transportation Services and Franchise Issuance or the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program), a flagship program of the Duterte administration that envisions a restructured, modern, well-managed and environmentally sustainable transport sector where drivers and operators have stable, sufficient and dignified livelihoods while commuters get to their destinations quickly, safely and comfortably.

Meanwhile, Lizada said they have met with officials of 12 universities and colleges in the National Capital Region involving at least 600 students of Criminology, National Service Training Program, and Reserve Training Officers’ Corps to be deployed to help implement Oplan Isnabero.

“Schools interested to join the campaign Oplan Isnabero were the Metro Manila College, Bestlink College of the Philippines, University of Caloocan City, Lyceum of Alabang in Muntinlupa City, Manuel L. Quezon University, Our Lady of Fatima University, Republican College, Philippine College of Criminology, Taguig City University, Emilio Aguinaldo College, Universidad de Manila and Jose Rizal University,” she told reporters.
