Sandiganbayan orders Floirendo's arrest

The Sandiganbayan has released a warrant of arrest against Davao del Norte Second District Representative Antonio Floirendo Jr.

It has also set the bail at P 30,000.

Floirendo is facing a graft case in the anti-graft court.

Its stems from the charge of the Ombudsman that Floirendo had violated the constitutional provision that bans government officials from having business interests in government projects.

On July 11, 1969, Floirendo's family, through Tagum Agricultural Development Company (TADECO), entered into a deal to develop a banana plantation in 5,000 hectares of land owned by Davao Penal Colony.

The deal was renewed for another 25 years on May 21, 2003.

At that time, Floirendo was a member of the House of Representatives.

House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez recently filed the graft charge against Floirendo at the Ombudsman.
