House to vote on Garcia's ouster
The House of Representatives will come up with a decision on whether or not to carry out the Ombudsman's ruling that dismisses Former Cebu Governor and now Cebu Third District Representative Gwendolyn Garcia.
House Majority Leader Rodolfo Fariñas says, lawmakers will put the issue to a vote during a plenary session.
Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales sent House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez a copy of the dismissal order.
She is seeking the chamber's "appropriate action."
The Ombudsman has found Garcia guilty of grave misconduct.
This is in connection with Cebu provincial government's purchase of P 98 million worth of property in Tinaan, Naga in Cebu when Garcia was governor.
It was discovered that more than half of the Balili property bought in 2008 was part of a mangrove area.
The purchase also reportedly lacked the approval of the provincial government.
For her part, Garcia says, the timing of the Ombudsman's action may be suspect.
She thinks it may have something to do with her active participation in the impeachment hearing of the House Justice Committee against Supreme Court Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno.
