Two instances of lava flow have been observed at Mayon Volcano today.

The first time was at 9:41 am and the second time was at 10:05 am.

Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) Director Renato Solidum explains, lava deposits on the crater would sometimes collapse and flow down the slopes.

This activity may go on for a few days.

Alert level 3 is up over Mayon.

This warning means there is increased activity toward a hazardous eruption.

The lava collapse has brought ash falls in the towns of Camalig and Guinobatan in Albay.

Nearly a thousand families have gone to schools that have become evacuation centers.

Classes in these areas were suspended.

The residents who fled were living within the 7-kilometer danger zone of the volcano.
