Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre has ordered the prosecutor general to go to court.
This is to seek the declaration of the Communist Party of the Philippines – New People's Army (CPP/NPA) as a terrorist organization.
The declaration of a regional trial court that a group is a terrorist organization to formalize President Rodrigo Duterte's recent pronouncement is prescribed in the Human Security Act.
Aguirre hopes the DOJ will be able to secure a favorable resolution from the judiciary.
He issued Department Order Number 779 for this purpose.
He wants the prosecutor general to submit the petition before December 11, 2017.
He is confident the executive branch can prove that the activities of the CPP/NPAs constitute terrorism as defined by law.
