The Justice Committee of the House of Representatives has resumed the impeachment hearing on Supreme Court Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno today.

The proceeding is meant to determine whether or not there is probable cause to impeach the chief magistrate.

Oriental Mindoro Representative and Committee Chairman Reynaldo Umali began by reading the statement of Sereno.

In the statement, Sereno refuted the allegations of her accuser, Attorney Larry Gadon.

Lawmakers spent the next 20 minutes hearing the request of non-committee members to be given the chance to participate in the arguments.

The request was made by Albay Representative Edcel Lagman, who is a non-member.

Cebu Representative Gwen Garcia made the motion that only committee members can participate in the hearing.

The motion was carried after 30 members of the committee voted in its favor.

Only three members opposed.

After the voting, Umali stressed the need for the committee to move forward as lawmakers of the present congress have only 60 session days left.
