Duterte says Tugade stays as DoTR secretary

TRANSPORTATION Secretary Arthur Tugade will not be leaving the Cabinet anytime soon after President Rodrigo Duterte himself shot down speculations that he may be the next who might get axed.

“There are allegations, he goes there, he’s corrupt. I said, he doesn’t have time for that,” Duterte said Friday during the launch of Cebu Pacific’s 7th Domestic Hub in Cagayan de Oro.

“He doesn’t even know how to count his money,” the President said.

Duterte even complimented Tugade.

“Secretary Tugade, in respect to his statement, he also has no match, he is bright. He was our brightest classmate in law school,” said Duterte.

The President has repeatedly said he would fire government officials even with just a “whiff” of corruption.

“Even a whiff, or a whisper, of corruption and you’re out,” Duterte warned government officials barely a week before he assumed the presidency in July last year.

Duterte has fired even his longtime allies and closest aides from the Cabinet, supposedly over corruption allegations.

Most recently, he fired Budget Undersecretary Gertrudo de Leon for “tinkering” with money.
