DNA test proves Hapilon was among Marawi fatalities

Test made by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in the United States on the DNA sample taken from the corpse of Abu Sayyaf leader Isnilon Hapilon shows he was indeed among the terrorists killed in Marawi City last Monday.

The statement comes from Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana.

Lorenzana said, aside from this development, the FBI is also subjecting to the same procedure the DNA samples taken from the remains of other terrorist leaders who died in Marawi siege.

Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Public Affairs Chief Colonel Edgard Arevalo previously said DNA samples taken from the cadaver of Omar Maute were submitted to the FBI.

The news comes, as government forces in Marawi City conduct clearing operations.

Soldiers are retrieving bombs and other explosive devices that failed to detonate.
