DOJ probes Kian Loyd's death

Government prosecutors assigned to the case of Kian Loyd delos Santos held a preliminary investigation at the Department of Justice (DOJ) on Thursday.

Present were the accused Police Officer 3 (PO3) Arnel Oares, PO1 Jeremias Pereda and PO1 Jerwin Cruz.

Kian Loyd's parents Saldy and Lorenza delos Santos also attended the proceeding.

Public Attorney's Office (PAO) Chief Persida Rueda Acosta was also at the hearing.

Her office submitted to the DOJ panel the sworn affidavit of a witness who refuted the claim of Caloocan Police that Kian Loyd died in a shootout with them.

Acosta says, they will prove there was treachery in the death of Kian and that he was a hapless victim of police brutality.

17-year-old Kian Loyd was gunned down in an anti-drug operation last August 16.
