THE Board of Regents of the University of the Philippines, Diliman in Quezon City has approved the reduction in the minimum General Education units to 21 units only.

In a Sept. 7's 1,330th meeting, BOR, the university's highest policy-making body, decided to lower the number of basic subjects from 45 units to 21 units for each students.

Under the new GE curriculum, a total of 21 core units and up to 24 free elective GE courses will be offered under three domains—arts and humanities, social sciences and philosophy, and mathematics, science and technology.

The decision was reached among BOR members, except for UP Student Council's Regent Shari Oliquinio as the only representative of 50,000 UP students.

On March 20, the GE reform proposal was adopted during the deliberation of the Diliman University Council composed of all professors and chaired by the chancellor.
