PDEA gives cash to informants

THE Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency rewarded on Tuesday P5,070,563.73 eight informants who helped made possible the arrest of drug personalities and the confiscation of large volumes of shabu.

Outgoing PDEA director general and new Bureau of Customs commissioner Isidro Lapeña led the grant of the cash rewards under the PDEA's Operation: Private Eye, a reward and incentive scheme designed to encourage private citizens to report suspected illegal drug activities in their place.

he informants were identified through their codenames—June, Sakuragi, Kiko, Spotter, Maximus, Excellente, Boi and Bald Head.

“I commend them for providing information that led to the arrest of several drug personalities and the seizure of voluminous amounts of methamphetamine hydrochloride, or shabu,” Lapeña said.

The informants, who wore masks to hide their identity, received their monetary rewards in a simple ceremony at the PDEA headquarters in Quezon City. Rio N. Araja

Alias June received the biggest reward of P2 million for the information he provided that resulted in the confiscation of 38,594.10 grams of shabu and the arrest of two drug suspects during an interdiction operation on Macapagal Boulevard, Barangay Don Galo, Parañaque City on June 14, 2016.
