House resets Comelec budget hearing

The House Committee on Appropriations has reset the budget hearing for the Commission on Elections (COMELEC).

The absence of Comelec Chairman Andres Bautista is being cited as reason.

Present in Wednesday's hearing are other commissioners of the poll body.

Commissioner Arthur Lim asked the lawmakers that they be allowed to defend the poll body's budget for next year.

Committee Chairperson Karlo Nograles, however, preferred to cancel today's proceedings and reset it to Thursday at 9 am.

Nograles said he did not receive any formal notification from Bautista about his absence.

Bautista had asked Lim and other Comelec officials to represent him.

Comelec Executive Director Jose Tolentino said Bautista was meeting the guidance counselors of his children.

The poll body is seeking a budget of P 16 billion for 2018.
