THE Office of the Ombudsman found on Friday incumbent Al-Barka Mayor Darussalam Lajid of Basilan guilty of gross neglect of duty for failure to ensure the timely completion of a water project in 2014.
Lajid was also meted out the penalty of dismissal from the service with forfeiture of all retirement benefits and perpetual disqualification from holding public office.
The case stemmed from Lajid’s lapses to complete the Salintubig program of the bottom-up budgeting project in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao worth P4,275,000.
Apart from Lajid, also ordered dismissed were municipal accountant Edgardo Chiong, municipal engineer Al-Shid Abdulmajid, municipal treasurer Nasser Asarul and clerk Zaidee Jakilan.
