The House Committee on Dangerous Drugs is investigating the entry of P 6.4 billion worth of shabu from China in May this year.

Lawmakers are grilling officials of the Bureau of Customs led by Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon and the Customs Deputy Commissioners.

Also attending as resources persons are Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Director Isidro Lapena and representatives from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

The probe is being done following the resolution filed by Committee Chairman and Surigao del Norte Representative Ace Barbers and Valenzuela City Representative Wes Gatchalian.

In his opening remarks, Barbers hurled criticisms at the current leadership in the Customs Bureau.

He said the smuggling of shabu showed either the incompetence of BOC officials or that corruption and connivance among Customs officers continue to prevail.

He chided Faeldon and his deputy commissioners whom he said seemed to have no credentials other than having fought with the Arroyo administration.

The same line-up of guests faced the inquiry held by the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee yesterday.
