NBI seizes P86.5m worth of counterfeit

OPERATIVES of the National Bureau of Investigation Intellectual Property Rights Division recently seized a total P86.5 million worth of counterfeit Nike and Converse shoes in an operation in Pasay City.

On March 21, 2017, Judge Rainelda H. Estacio-Montesa of RTC Branch 46, Manila issued Search Warrant against suspects Ana Chua, Wang Yu Bo, and other proprietors/occupants of premises located in various units at 111 J. Fernando Street, Pasay City and at One Shopping Center, Kapitan Ambo Street, Pasay City. 

The following day, after submission of Notice of Operation to the Director, operatives of the NBI-IPRD coordinated with the Philippine National Police which has jurisdiction of the place to be searched implemented the search warrant.

The operation, which stemmed from the complaint of Jaime S. Dela Cruz of I-Data (Nike and Converse), resulted in the seizure of counterfeit Nike and Converse shoes with an estimated cost of more or less P 86,550,000. 

Seized items were placed under the temporary custody in a warehouse in Valenzuela City.

Charges for Violation of Republic Act 8293 or the Intellectual Property Code were filed against the suspects.

For the first quarter of 2017, the NBI-IPRD had already seized P222 million worth of various counterfeit products.
