Bernabe vs Olivarez part 2

The son of an outgoing mayor will face off with the son of a former mayor for the top post in Parañaque City this May. Councilor Florencio “Benjo” Bernabe III, son of Mayor Florencio Bernabe, Jr., will slug it out with Parañaque 1st District Rep. Edwin Olivarez, who is a son of former city mayor Pablo Olivarez. This early, Benjo has scored the rival camp for spreading talk that he was underage. Citing the Local Government Code, the 37-year-old Bernabe said candidates in highly urbanized city such as Parañaque should at least be 23 years old on election day. Olivarez is 44. “Just as I have filed by CoC (Certificate of Candidacy), our political rivals have started with their smear campaign,” said Bernabe, who was elected city councilor in the 2nd district in 2010. Bernabe filed his candidacy last October, with Jose Enrico Golez, son of 2nd District Rep. Roilo Golez as his running mate under the banner of United Nationalist Alliance. Olivarez is tandemed with Councilor Edwin Benzon under the Liberal party-led coalition. A first term representative of 1st district, he was vice governor of Laguna before he ran for Congress in 2010. Bernabe, who is seeking to replace his third-termer mayor-father, finished business management at the De La Salle University. Olivares lost to Governor Teresita Lazato in 2007. He transferred to Parañaque and ran for congressman. His father Pablo likewise failed retake the mayoralty in 2010, losing to the older Bernabe.Ferdinand Fabella
