Storm's damage in Biliran reaches P 300M

Biliran Governor Gerardo Espina places the cost of damage wrought by tropical storm Urduja in their island at around P 300 million.

The governor reports five (5) major bridges were destroyed by floodwaters.

This include Catmon near Leyte.

Espina says, clearing operations are difficult because the destruction of the bridges hampered the transport of heavy equipment from one town to another.

It may take one week before the supplies of power and water are restored.

Many areas are isolated at this time.

There is also a shortage of gasoline and other petroleum products in the island.

Espina also reports, some residents resorted to panic buying in local stores yesterday afternoon.

President Rodrigo is set to visit Biliran today.

The small island is located in Eastern Visayas.

It became independent from Leyte in 1992.
