TUGUEGARAO, Cagayan—The provincial government here will conduct a two-day Agriculture and Climate Change Summit at the Events Place in Carmelita Hotel here on Jan. 26 to 27.

Gov. Manuel Mamba said the summit will address the lessons learned during the onslaught of Super Typhoon “Lawin” and to plan for a more disaster-resilient province.

“There is more to be learned and there is a need for a more encompassing plan on disaster management,” Mamba stressed.

Cagayanos once again showed to the country their resiliency and preparedness when it comes to disaster, as seen in the low number of casualties from the typhoon, the governor said.

Mamba said that among those affected, the agriculture sector’s concerns were immediately responded to and restored through the assistance of the Department of Agriculture and civil society organizations that have reached out to farmers.

Mamba assured that financial support donated by different groups and personalities to Cagayanos will be spent judiciously, as this manifests their trust in the provincial government.

Initially, the summit was planned at educating the public regarding climate change in agriculture and damages in infrastructure, including disaster preparedness and risk reduction management.

The activity also aims to identify “Lawin” victims and give them a chance to share their experiences during the onslaught of the typhoon last October 19.
