Junior college students who would like to apply for a scholarship from the Department of Science and Technology have until September 9 to submit all requirements.
During an orientation on the DOST- Junior Level Science Scholarships (DOST-JLSS) at the University of Northern Philippines, DOST-Ilocos Sur provincial director Ramon Sumabat reminded interested applicants to submit their application before the September 9 deadline to avoid the crowd and to give them time to check the submitted documents.
Sumabat said the scholarship program is under Republic Act 10612 or “The Fast-Tracked Science and Technology Scholarship Act of 2013,” which urges students to pursue science, mathematics and engineering courses if they would like to have the opportunity to teach science and math-related subjects in the country’s secondary schools.
The applicant must also pass the DOST – Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI)’s JLSS exam which will be administered on October 16.
Successful applicants will be entitled to subsidy of tuition and other school fees, monthly living allowance and book allowance, among others. For more details on the scholarship, interested third year college students can visit DOST-Ilocos Office at Barangay Tamag in Vigan City.
Sumabat is hoping that most of the 200 students of UNP and Ilocos Sur Polytechnic College in Santa Maria town who attended the orientation will file their applications as soon as possible.
