PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte is now the country’s most trusted government official a week following his assumption into office and now holds the highest level of public trust since 1999, the latest Pulse Asia survey revealed Wednesday.

Duterte won the highest trust rating of majority of Filipinos since the polling firm Pulse Asia first conducted its survey, with an overwhelming 91 percent majority expressing trust in him and practically no one distrusting him at 0.2 percent.

A sizeable majority of Filipinos (62 percent) trust Vice President Leni Robredo at 62 percent, while over one in every 10 Filipinos or 11 percent distrust her outright. More than a quarter of Filipinos at 27 percent are undecided about whether to trust or distrust Robredo.

Some 42 percent of Filipinos are also undecided whether they should trust Chief Justice Maria Lourdes P.A. Sereno, the third highest official, more than the 35 percent who expressed their trust in her.

Both Duterte and Robredo have high awareness ratings at 100 percent, while some 79 percent of Filipinos were aware of Sereno.

For most Filipinos, the Duterte government must prioritize three economic issues—controlling increases in prices (68 percent), creating employment opportunities (56 percent) and crafting new pro-poor programs (55 percent) in the first six months in office.

The nationwide survey was conducted from July 2 to 8, 2016 among 1,200 Filipinos and with a margin of error of +/- 3 percent.

Communications Secretary Martin Andanar thanked the Filipino people for their overwhelming support for the governance of President Rodrigo Duterte.

He said “this record-high trust rating of 91 percent, is a humbling reminder that the genuine and meaningful change that our people aspire for is now being felt.”

“This expression of confidence, shall serve as an inspiration to the Duterte administration to continuously make a real difference and make our people’s lives better, safer, and healthier,” Andanar said.

Robredo also thanked the public for their trust in her.

“We are overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from our fellow Filipinos. From 1 percent in the pre-election surveys to 35.1 percent—and now, a trust rating of 62 percent,” she said in a statement.
