Police hiring 1,000 SAF

The National Police Commission on Tuesday approved the recruitment of two additional 500-man battalions for the Special Action Force (SAF) of the Philippine National Police in its bid to strengthen the national police’s internal security operations. Napolcom Vice Chairman Eduardo Escueta said the commission issued Resolution No. 2012-476 approving the activation of two more Special Action Battalion (SAB) in the SAF, which currently has five active SABs. SAF is the PNP’s elite counter-terrorism unit similar to the British’s Special Air Service (SAS) and trained by the Hostage Rescue Team (HRT) of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Critical Incident Response Group of the French police’s Research, Assistance, Intervention and Deterrence (RAID) unit.
