De Lima: Top public officials now believe Duterte’s lies

Senator Leila De Lima expresses her dismay with some top government officials who have been supposedly swayed by the Duterte administration into believing that she has a role in the proliferation of illegal drug trade in the country.

In a statement on Wednesday, she said, “it is saddening and frightening that even high-ranking public figures have swallowed hook, line and sinker the fantasy that the Duterte administration has been weaving – that a person was single-handedly responsible for the proliferation of drugs in the country and it took place only over the course of my term as Secretary of Justice.”

She did not name these personalities but she may be indirectly chiding Senator Grace Poe, who had said De Lima should explain how illegal drug trade flourished during her term at the DOJ.

De Lima is facing a complaint in the Senate Ethics Committee for reportedly telling her security aide Ronnie Dayan to ignore the summon of the House Committee on Justice to attend the investigation on illegal drug trade inside the New Bilibid Prison.

Poe is a member of the Ethics Committee and she promises to exercise fairness in the forthcoming deliberations on De Lima’s case.
