The Senate has received the Show Cause Order for Senator Leila De Lima.

Senate Secretary Lutgardo Barbo received the order from House Majority Rodolfo Fariñas and House Committee on Justice Chairman Reynaldo Umali who personally submitted the document before noon on Tuesday.

The order seeks an explanation from the senator as to why she allegedly exerted "undue influence" to her security aide Ronnie Dayan and for “directing the witness to defy a valid coercive process by the Committee.”

The House leaders are referring to the text message of De Lima telling Dayan, through his daughter, not to appear in the House inquiry into the proliferation of illegal drug trade in New Bilibid Prison.

Barbo is set to forward the Show Cause Order to the Senate Ethics Committee.

He explains, the order tackles issues on administrative sanctions and criminal liability, hence it will be sent to the Senate Ethics Committee for appropriate response.
