Signal # 5 raised as ‘Lawin’ becomes a super typhoon

PAGASA has raised Cagayan and Isabela under Typhoon Signal Number 5.

This is as of 1 pm Wednesday.

Signal Number 4 is up over Apayao, Kalinga, Ilocos Norte, Mountain Province, Ifugao and Calayan group of islands.

Signal Number 3 is up over La Union, Benguet, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino and Northern Aurora.

Signal Number 2 is up over Batanes, Pangasinan, rest of Aurora, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Northern Zambales and Northern Quezon, including Polillo islands.

Signal Number 1 is up over the rest of Zambales, Bulacan, Bataan, Pampanga, Rizal, rest of Quezon, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay and Metro Manila.

PAGASA Weather Forecaster Jori Loiz says, typhoon ‘Lawin’ has been located 300 kilometers east of Casiguran, Aurora.

It packs maximum sustained winds of up to 225 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 315 kph.

It is moving slower now at 24 kph and its diameter has widened to 800 kilometers.

PAGASA now describes ‘Lawin’ as a super typhoon.

It warns, the typhoon may bring a storm surge as high as 5 meters.
