Discount caravan readied

The trade department will hold its Diskwento Caravan in Leyte province’s Maasin City on Nov. 18 and Bayabay town on Nov. 19 so victims of super typhoon ‘Yolanda’ there can access lower-priced goods.

Food giants Gardenia, Nutri Asia, Nestle, Century Canning, Purefoods, and San Miguel will join the caravan to sell bottled water, canned goods, coffee, milk, noodles, rice, biscuits and bread at below-retail prices.

Diskwento Caravan is a Department of Trade and Industry flagship project that aims to make basic products available to the public at either discounted or factory prices.

DTI plans bringing the caravan to typhoon-hit Samar province’s Catbalogan and Calbayog cities although the agency hasn’t yet announced the schedule for this activity.
