Clark revs up Auto-Motorama

It was a red-letter date for petrol heads as the Clark Fontana Leisure Park played host to this year’s Auto-Motoroma, one of the biggest car shows in the country today. With a theme of “Drive More to Reach More”, the weekend car show had more than the usual display of custom and modified cars and motorcycles. “For several years now, we have always been a great advocate of Reach Out World Wide Foundation—the same beneficiary supported by the late action star Paul Walker, who starred in the immensely popular Fast and Furious movie series,” said Fontana chief executive officer Manuel Sequeira.

Rare sportscars took center stage at the Auto Motorama.

Clark Fontana, in cooperation with the Car Awards Group Inc., took the wraps off the 2015 Car of the Year Philippines winner, the Mazda 2 in a gala night attended by industry bigwigs and related agencies. Mazda’s giant killer stood out among the 65 other nominees that vied for the top plum, garnering merits in terms of performance, aesthetics, driving experience, and price to name a few of its selling points. The other big winner for the night was the Nissan NP300 Navara 2.5L 4×2 EL 7AT Calibre, which earned the Truck of the Year – Philippines award, beating out its competitors in the truck wars. The same variant topped the 4×2 Pickup category, while Ford’s Ranger Wildtrak 3.2L 4×4 AT snatched the 4×4 Pickup award.

As a climax to the Auto-Motorama weekend, the fifth JSK Auto Fun Run was held the following day with a record setting 1,059 participating cars in different levels of customization and tuning. At least 2,000 guests were treated to a live band entertainment, sumptuous meals, games and exciting prizes culminating in a grand raffle draw with a BYD car as the grand prize. The celebration led to an Auto Show Pool Party with a live disc jockey on Saturday night, held at the Olympic-size swimming pool area of Fontana Hot Spring Leisure Parks Hotel.

Car of the Year: Mazda officials led by its president Steven Tan receive the Car of the Year Award from the Car Awards Group Inc.

“I’m very happy for the turnout of the three-day event,” said Sequeira. “I think Paul Walker was watching over us. This is the first of what will be a series of annual events. The Auto-Motorama was a success because of our partners namely Clark Development Corp., San Miguel Corp., PLDT Smart Telecommunications, and co-organizers San Miguel Brewery, San Miguel Purefoods, Ginebra San Miguel, Petron, JSK Custom Paint & Auto Works, CAGI, Clark International Speedway and our friends from the media.”
