For the fifth consecutive year, Caloocan City has been recognized as a Seal of Good Local Governance awardee for 2019.

Caloocan is one of just two cities in the National Capital Region chosen for consecutive years for this award since 2015.

The SGLG is the highest honor given by the Department of the Interior and Local Government to local governments showing excellence in various aspects for public services such as social protection, financial administration, disaster preparedness, peace and order, and other categories.

“I am very grateful to the DILG for this recognition,” Mayor Oscar Malapitan said. “The SGLG proves we continue to do our work in lifting the lives in our beloved Caloocan.

The mayor also thanked the Sangguniang Panlungsod, city department heads, employees, and Caloocan residents.

“This victory is the victory of every citizen of Caloocan,” he said.

Meanwhile, Caloocan City has been declared again as the seventh richest among cities in the Philippines for year 2018, according to statistics released by the government.

Based on the numbers released by the Commission on Audit, Caloocan has total assets of P18.381 billion, up from P17.011 billion in 2017.

Malapitan said this goes to show that the city government’s economy is continuously growing and “we are progressing.”

“Let us hope that this will increase even more in the last three years of my term,” the mayor said.

Two weeks ago, exactly 100 days after he was reelected and sworn into office, Malapitan faced his constituents and reported the various programs his administration has undertaken in his third State of the City Address, even as he emphasized more proposed big projects for his next three years.

Attended by city officials and employees, barangay officials and non-government organizations, Malapitan said the programs will be realized only with the continuing trust and cooperation of the people of Caloocan with the city government, adding that he alone cannot do all this.

These programs will come in the fields of education development, infrastructure, health, cleanliness, peace and order, economy, and social benefits for every Caloocan resident.

He also acknowledged the awards the city has received under his administration, including the prestigious SGLG, and expressed hope that by working together, Caloocan “will be able to win again another award next year.”

The 2nd City Development Council General Assembly was also held after the mayor’s State of the City Address, as members discussed and approved proposed projects for this year.
