Taguinod bags silver at Asian Age Group swimfest

Promising breaststroke specialist Jalil Sephraim Taguinod came up with good showings the 10th Asian Age Group Swimming Championships at the Padukone-Dravid Center for Sports Excellence in Bengaluru, India.

Taguinod broke the 16-year-old, 14-15 boys’ 50-meter national junior breaststroke record, a feat that earned him a silver medal.

The 14-year-old Taguinod submitted a time of 31.10 seconds, erasing the 31.27-second mark, which Gerard Bordado held since 2003 at the 27th Southeast Asia Age Group Swimming Championships in the Philippines.

Japan’s Yamato Okadome took the gold with 30.26 seconds, while Kozhakhmetov Arsen of Kazakhstan timed 31.49 to clinch the bronze.

It was Taguinod’s second medal, after bagging a bronze on day one of the championships in 100m breaststroke event.

Earlier, Micaela Jasmine Mojdeh finished 5th in her pet event, the 200m butterfly, with a time of 2:21.77.

Eventual gold medalist, Audrey Lau Ping Yi of Hong Kong, fought her way to a 2:16.18 golden finish in the event.

Thailand’s Jinjutha Pholjamjumrus took the silver with 2:19.52; while Saaya Ota of Japan finished third with bronze medal time of 2:20.52
