Perlas Spikers, Angels dispute No. 2 in PVL

BanKo-Perlas seeks a repeat but PetroGazz goes all-out for a payback, guaranteeing a fierce duel as two of the league’s top teams begin their second round elims campaign in the Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Open Conference at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan today (Wednesday).

The Perlas Spikers subdued the Reinforced Conference champions in four when they first clashed last Aug. 11 but the Angels are coming off an impressive four-game run to close out their first round stint, including a shutout win over title contender Motolite last Sunday as they posted identical 5-2 slates behind the Creamline Cool Smashers, who swept the first round.

BanKo-Perlas is also riding on a three-game roll, including a tough five-set escape over BaliPure last week, making their 6 p.m. showdown worth watching with the likes of Jeanette Panaga, Cherry Nunag, Jonah Sabete, Cai Baloaloa and setter Djanel Cheng going up against Dzi Gervacio, Kathy Bersola, Sue Roces and playmaker Jem Ferrer.

BanKo-Perlas, however, will surely miss the services of top hitter Nicole Tiamzon, who is in a UNESCO forum in France as one of the country’s representatives.

Meanwhile, four teams try to boost their respective first round elims bids with Motolite facing a skidding Choco Mucho at 2 p.m. and PacificTown Army seeking to sustain its rebound against a struggling Air Force side at 4 p.m.

Its four-game run snapped by PetroGazz, Motolite tries to bounce back with ace Myla Pablo possibly out after sustaining a foot injury while going for a spike in the second set of their match against the Angels last Sunday.

That should give the Flying Titans some push as they try to end their string of setbacks after an impressive 2-1 start in their maiden campaign in the season-ending conference of the league organized by Sports Vision and backed by Mikasa, Asics and KFC.

The Lady Troopers, on the other hand, hope to ride the momentum of their three-set romp over the Chef’s Classics Red Spikers as the take on the Jet Spikers in a duel of teams featuring the league’s veterans.
