A composite police team killed two suspected drug traffickers in a shootout and seized P6.8 million worth of shabu following a buy-bust operation in Pasig City early Thursday morning.

Killed were Jalal Salamoden, alias Bon Jovie, a resident of Block 29 Addition Hills, Mandaluyong City; and Sampiano Rason, alias Sonny, of Laurel Street, Gate 1, Lifehome Subdivision, Barangay Rosario, Pasig City.

Metro Manila police director Guilermo Eleazar said Salamoden and Rason worked as members of a criminal syndicate headed by Amin Imam Buratong who was arrested in 2006.

Buratong is now serving jail term at the New Bilibid Prison for running the infamous "Shabu Tiangge" in Mayapa Compound, Barangay Sto. Tomas, also in Pasig City.

“Despite his imprisonment, he still manage to operate illegal drugs trade through his cousin Acsaimin Buratong alias Mac-Mac and some armed and dangerous followers,” he said.

Eleazar said the suspects were the subject of an illegal drugs operation under Case Operational Plan "Silent Sentinel" which targetted individuals and known personalities distributing prohibited substance within Metro Manila and in neighboring provinces.

“Four members of this gang have been arrested and two members have been neutralized in an armed encounter,” he said.

Eleazar said his men from the National Capital Region Police Office-Drug Enforcement Unit and operatives from the Pasig City Police Station and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency conducted the latest police operation in front of the Caltex gasoline station at the corner of Felix Avenue and Kabayanihan Street in Barangay Dela Paz around 2 a.m.

An NCRPO policeman acting as a buyer was able to purchase two pieces of plastic bags of shabu (each plastic containing 200 grams) worth P450,000.

One of the suspects, who sensed that the buyer was a policeman, fired at the undercover agent and fled on board a motorcycle with the other suspect. The authorities chased and cornered them along Kabayanihan Street where the shootout happened, killing the suspects in the process.

"Basically they are drug suspects but we cannot discount the possibility that they are also involved in other activities like, for example, gun for hire, because they were armed,” said Eleazar.
