Both quintets will face separate opponents today as they will try to fulfill their separate missions when they the 95th National Collegiate Athletic Association men’s basketball tournament resumes today at the FilOil-Flying V Sports Center in San Juan.

The unbeaten Red Lions will be in for a big fight when they clash with the Lyceum Pirates at 2 p.m. and go for win no. 7.

On the other hand, the Altas will be looking for their third triumph when they play the Emilo Aguinaldo College Generals since absorbing a painful 56-102 setback to the Red Lions last Friday.

For San Beda College coach Boyet Fernandez, their game with the Pirates is considered a confidence-building encounter.

“We’re playing against Lyceum. The win against the Altas will give us the confidence against them (Pirates),” said Fernandez.

The Red Lions are hoping to stay unbeaten after seven games when they take on the Pirates, who removed the College of St. Benilde Blazers from their share of the lead last Friday.

This was after the Jaycee Marcelino-led Pirates won over the Blazers, 74-71, to move to second at 6-1.

The Red Lions pulled off an unexpected blowout win the last time around and it turned out to be their best game of the season.

A hurting Altas team will now play without coach Frankie Lim, who took a leave, with assistant mentor Myk Saguiguit taking over.

“We’re just preparing to play a good game against EAC,” said Saguiguit as the Altas try to notch their third triumph in eight outings.
