The run—held for the benefit of residents of Barangay Gun-ob, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu—is a companion event of the 2019 Regent AGUILA IRONMAN 70.3 Powered by PhilAm Vitality to be held at Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort & Spa in Lapu Lapu City tomorrow.

Alaska Milk Associate Brand Manager Diane Guerta said the Family Fun Run promotes the importance of exercise and proper nutrition especially for children.

“We wanted to involve the local community here in Cebu. We invited them to do a short run and participate in the Zumba dance exercise to communicate our purpose. Our message is nutrition and action. It’s the most important aspect in a child’s development,” said Guerta.

“Our cause is to help the public, in this case the residents of Barangay Gun-ob, including some who were victims of a recent fire. So we’re really glad that they joined. And we’re also grateful for the support of Lapu-Lapu City.”

Punong Barangay Ele Tumulak Fontanoza said she requested that her constituents join the fun run and the Zumba dance exercise which would help lift the spirits of the residents of the community, especially the victims of a recent fire.

“Dinala natin sila dito para maka enjoy. Sila ang mga fire victims. Sinabihan ko ang mga organizer kung pwede sila ang priority sa mga constituents natin sa Gun-Ob,” said Fontanoza.

“Para at least man lang—kasi mga fire victims sila—ngayon at least masaya sila. Nakikita natin na join sila sa fun run. At the same time, nandyan sila sa photo booth ngayon. So happy sila dahil nabigyan natin ng priority.”

Close to three hundred runners—including triathlon professionals led by Caroline Steffen, Tim Reed and Dimity Lee Duke who will vie for the top prize in the IRONMAN 70.3 race tomorrow— joined the run led by children and with the pledge from Alaska to donate milk for children of the barangay.

Meanwhile, one of the most anticipated swim-bike-run races for kids and teens kicks off its fourth year in Cebu today.

Close to 400 participants ages 6 to 14 years old will join the Alaska Fortified IRONKIDS Philippines and swim at the Shangri-La Mactan beach, bike at Mactan Newtown and run along the Punta Engaño road.

“It’s the perfect sport for children to develop their endurance, strength, make friends and experience the fun of healthy competition,” said Princess Galura General Manager for Sunrise Events, Inc. a part of the IRONMAN group.

The race is meant to encourage children to exercise regularly and develop the healthy habit of drinking milk everyday.
