SPIT founder Gabe Mercado

Gabe Mercado, founder of Silly People’s Improv Theater (SPIT), Manila’s premier improv company, spoke about “The Joy of Improv: The Improvisational Mindset as a Key to the Creative Economy,” a fun segment on the importance of spontaneous communication techniques in the modern workplace.

Mercado shared key insights he has picked up in the past 15 years coaching people on strategic problem solving, pitching, and storytelling.

Meanwhile, visual artist and sculptor Jinggoy Buensuceso delivered a thought-provoking discussion on “Changing the Landscape of Philippine Art & Design.”

A celebrated artist who merges cutting-edge design with functionality, Buensuceso’s pieces are striking for their unique beauty. Drawing from his experience working with unorthodox materials, his talk encouraged people to break the rules and be their authentic selves.

The importance of play in current societies was discussed in the talk of interior design director of Mañosa & Co., and founder of Awit At Laro Bambi Mañosa-Tanjutco. She brought back warm childhood memories with “Awit at Laro: Celebrating the Spirit of Play through music, art, dance, and culture.”

Mañosa-Tanjutco’s talk focused on the importance of plays and the Awit at Laro campaign, an initiative she spearheads alongside singer Gary Valenciano. The said campaign aims to reintroduce traditional Filipino games, like patintero, to the new generation.

Javier Design Studio Manila founder Architect Joseph Javier’s segment casts design as a powerful agent of positive change, recommending actions to help institutions make Philippine design more purposeful.

With 24 years of experience in design and innovation, Javier has been a key figure at the De La Salle-College of St. Benilde’s architecture program.
