After the trade to get Raymund Almazan was finalized and completed, Meralco coach Norman Black now looks forward to the potential of the Bolts being a more well-rounded team.

It’s no secret that the Bolts’ biggest weakness the past few seasons is their lack to ceiling and talent at the slot position, prompting the team to roll the dice and complete a deal with Rain or Shine to acquire Almazan in exchange for two future first-round picks (2019 and 2021).

“We’ve been playing without a solid big man that can take charge in the paint for several years now,” described Black of his team’s problems inside the paint.

The versatile 6’7” center can do it all on both and his versatility can be the asset that Meralco has been looking for.

“Almazan is certainly one of the best bigs in the country. He has size and he can play inside and out. Hopefully, he can come in for us and help us more inside the point with his scoring, rebounding and blocking there,” said Black.

The Meralco coach believes that Almazan’s presence can help the team perform better in the coming Commissioner’s Cup.

“We want to win now and we wanted a guy who can help us win now,” said Black. “He can definitely help us get better.”

Meralco has missed the playoffs in the past two Philippine Cups after its difficulties in battling in the paint against much bigger teams.

Meanwhile, San Miguel Beer and Magnolia are battling for all the marbles and glory in Game 7 of the 2019 Philippine Basketball Association Philippine Cup Finals.

The Beermen are gunning for an unprecedented fifth straight All-Filipino conference title while the Hotshots are aiming to cop their second straight championship.
