“I had this hope in my heart that I’d actually find someone worth risking everything for and then it just so happened that the timing was right,” Joyce started.

“I remember writing this song after I moved to this apartment I rent now and I was like ‘Alam mo baka sakali naman it will work out this time around.’ Maybe I’ll give it one last shot and then if it doesn’t work, I’m gonna live with my dog Bowie alone in a mountainous area somewhere,” she said without giving out any specific details of the song’s inspiration.

Cutting to the chase, we asked: Is it safe to say that Juancho Trivino inspired you to write the song?

“It is safe to say that Juancho is the main beneficiary of the song,” Joyce quipped but was quick to explain how the actor inspired her to come up with a relatable lyrics and soothing melody, “He’s one of the major inspirations. I do so many things, there are great opportunities given to me by GMA, but then I had this thought maybe I could give it [love] another shot.Baka naman, baka naman mag-workout siya.”

“Now, you know, I’m so happy I live such a beautiful life because of the people I’m surrounded with. The work I do is so fulfilling. And if I had felt I didn’t want to take a chance on people anymore, at least not romantically, late last year may humabol,” she carried on while doing some side glances to where Juancho, who joined her during the launch and surprised her with flowers and cake, was seated.

In a recent interview, Joyce said that she’s giving the actor a hard time but she’s giving him a chance.

Last year in October, the two started working together as co-hosts in Unang Hirit. Joyce admitted that they both have similarities like their upbringing and the way they view romantic relationships. She also said that it’s hard not to like Juancho, who started showing her special attention early this year, because of his pleasant personality.

And this must be the reason why writing the song went smoothly for Joyce.

“It’s one of those songs that kind of wrote itself. And I think any artist would agree with me there are songs that you sit down and you think of what to write or you actually need to give time and effort to compose one. But this is one of those songs that when I sat down, I already have an idea what to write,” she answered in a definite manner.

Known as a sought-after events host, vlogger, writer, and a World Vision Ambassador, Joyce is also thrilled to embark into this new chapter in her career

Joyce admits that actor Juancho Trivino is her song’s major inspiration.

“For many years, I have enjoyed my work as a broadcaster and TV presenter, but not a lot of people know that my first love was always music and writing,” she said.

“When I was five, my parents would often go to church and I enjoyed serving in the music ministry—I would dance, and sing, and spend my days basking in whatever creative pursuit I could get my hands on. At the age of fourteen, I fronted my first ever band, and we would perform classic rock songs at school events, and in different competitions,” she recalled.

Currently, Joyce co-anchors the digital newscast Stand for Truth alongside award-winning broadcast journalist Atom Araullo and GMA Resident Analyst Richard Heydarian, together with a fresh group of reporters from all over the Philippines. She is in charge of the music segment of the online news program. Joyce produces podcast #AdultingWithJoycePring and uploads vlogs on her YouTube channel every week, as well.

“Baka Sakali” is now available for download and streaming on iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify, and other digital platforms under Balcony Records.
