Hyundai Asia Resources Inc., the official distributor of Hyundai passenger cars and commercial vehicles in the Philippines, reported on Monday sales of 9,949 units in the first quarter of 2019, up 12.5 percent from 8,847 units year-on-year.

Hyundai sold 3,412 units in March, up 6 percent on year.

“HARI sustained its growth momentum in the first quarter driven by the successful introduction of fresh and innovative models such as the Reina at the start of the year and a more positive buying sentiment from consumers. We are well-poised to continue this upward trend over the next three quarters as we recently unveiled pioneering vehicles at the Manila International Auto Show,” said Hyundai president and CEO Ma. Fe Perez-Agudo.

Hyundai sold 5,404 passenger cars in the first three months, down 12.9 percent from 6,205 units on year. But net of models phased out in 2018, actual sales increased by over 22 percent.

Car sales in March also slowed 13 percent to 1,914 units from 2,203 units on year.
