Megan Young ready to shift gears

At the renewal of her exclusive contract with GMA Network, Miss World 2013 Megan Young described her 2018 as a “very busy year,” which made her look forward to a more relaxed yet productive 2019.

The beauty queen and actress-TV host was all smiles when she was interviewed right after she inked another talent management contract with the network where she started her career as a teen star. 

Her  first showbiz break was through the second season of the talent reality search, StarStruck in 2004. She then landed on her first acting job via Love to Love Presents: Love Ko Urok. Thereafter, she played the role of Anna in Asian Treasures and the role of a fairy in Mga Kuwento ni Lola Basyang.

“It’s nice to be here with my family. I’m really thankful to GMA for giving us a program that would showcase our talent. This year, I’m looking forward to something different. I don’t mind doing another afternoon series because I enjoy it. But I’m also looking forward to hosting jobs this year, ”she said and continued that this time around, she wants try light dramas and romantic comedies for her next projects.

Megan’s last program with GMA was the top-rating afternoon soap The Stepdaughters with her real-life beau Mikael Daez and fellow Starstruck alumna Katrina Halili.

 “I really wanted to do romcom because I’m so into Koreanovela. So that’s kind of my dream. I know some people aspire for heavy roles but I love the lightness and endearing moments of Koreanovelas. So maybe a story like that is something I look forward to. I also love anime na gagawing live action. I’ve never done anything like that,” she mused.

Present in the contract signing were GMA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Atty. Felipe L. Gozon, GMA Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Felipe S. Yalong, GMA Entertainment Group’s Senior Vice President Lilybeth G. Rasonable, GMA Senior Assistant Vice President for Alternative Productions Gigi Santiago-Lara, and Megan’s manager, Arnold Vegafria.

“Megan is not just a pretty face, she’s also one of the good actresses we have here in the network. That’s why we are happy that she renewed her contract with us. Her career still has a long way to go,” Atty. Gozon said of Megan’s loyalty as a Kapuso.

 Rasonable, on the other hand, revealed that the network is already gearing up for Megan’s next big projects in the Kapuso station, “Of course, we are already thinking of another soap for her to star in. Based on the success of The Stepdaughters, which aired for almost one year, the viewers like seeing her on the small screen.”

“And we are happy on her performance in that series. She showed na magaling siya sa drama. She’s improved a lot. So we want to do more of that. And yes, she’s also a good host,” the TV executive said.
