Foton seeks to extend PSL win streak

Foton seeks to extend its winning run when it faces struggling F2 Logistics in the Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference today at Filoil Flying V Centre.

Game time is at 7 p.m. with the Tornadoes shooting for solo lead in this prestigious women’s club tournament bankrolled by Isuzu, Sogo, Asics, Mikasa, Mueller, UCPB Gen and Bizooku with Genius Sports as technical provider.

Meanwhile, Generika-Ayala tries to sustain its momentum as it battles winless Sta. Lucia at 4:15 p.m. while Smart and Cocolife tip things off in the 1:30 p.m. appetizer of this tourney that has ESPN5, Hyper HD and Aksyon TV as broadcast partners.

Despite losing twin towers Jaja Santiago and Dindin Manabat to the prestigious V.Premier League in Japan, the Tornadoes are still off to a sizzling start as they tallied four consecutive victories to join idle Petron on top of the standings.

Their last win was truly impressive as they dominated a seasoned squad in Smart, 26-24, 25-15, 25-19, much to the delight of rookie mentor Aaron Velez, who took over from Rommel Abella in the off-season.

But Velez refuses to be complacent.

“Honestly, I don’t want to think about our opponent,” he said, anticipating a dogfight against a bleeding F2 Logistics squad, which is coming from a sorry four-set loss to the Lifesavers last Tuesday.

“We will still prepare, but we will focus more on ourselves, on the things we can improve on rather than the things we don’t have control of.”

The Cargo Movers, who have been dominating this conference for the past couple of years, are tipped to come out firing following a dismal performance by the veteran crew of Cha Cruz-Behag, Ara Galang, Aby Marano and Kim Fajardo in their previous game.

Velez said F2 Logistics coach Ramil de Jesus will surely come up with a solid game plan that would put them back on winning track.

“I’m sure F2 Logistics will come back stronger, especially since they are coming from back-to-back losses. But we will do our assignment and we will try our best not to be their victim,” said Velez, who will bank on the resurgent Mina Aganon, Maika Ortiz, Shaya Adorador, Gyselle Sy and Bea de Leon.
