The Global Art National Competition is an annual contest among students of Global Art, an art school.

“This year’s competition is special for us because it is Global Art Philippines’ 10th anniversary,” said Yenny Saw, manager of Global Art & Creative Philippines.

She added, “Through this event, we celebrated with and showed our appreciation to our students, franchisees, and art teachers who have been part of Global Art’s growth during the past decade.”

The artworks featured creative interpretations of the meaning of “celebration,” this year’s theme, expressed through drawing, painting, coloring, and composing visual elements.

Students from Ortigas, San Juan Del Monte, Makati, Serendra, Alabang, Binondo, Katipunan Ave., New Manila, Ycaza St. Manila, Fun Ranch-Pasig, Pampanga, Cebu, General Santos City, and Davao competed in two main categories: Creative Drawing and Acrylic Painting.

The winning entry of Albyn Santino Lucernas.

Albyn Lucernas who hails from Cebu expressed his interpretation of the theme the way a true-blue Cebuano would: the Sinulog way.

“It is, for me, a celebration unique to us Cebuanos; so I included mardi gras faces and blended the cheerful colors the way Global Art has taught me,” said Lucernas who was named grand winner in Category B for Creative Drawing.

But aside from showcasing their talents, the competition also helped in honing their skills and motivating the young artists to do better.

“The most challenging thing for me was thinking of an idea that suited the theme and actually drawing it on paper. But once I finished the artwork, I could not believe that I did it, because it was beautiful!” shared Julianne Chuah, who won the grand prize in Category D for Creative Drawing.

Global Art students, Saw said, are also trained to think of novel ways of doing things artfully while interacting with their teachers and classmates.
